Lake Louise

Lake Louise The transportation logistics entailed an earlier start to the day so we could find parking at the Lake Louise. The boys still managed to have breakfast and Parishi grabbed some for the road. However, we were 3 cars too late to park. Anu, me and the kids were dropped off while the guys drove back in town to park and walk/hike. The canoe πŸ›Ά ride line was a pleasant 30 minutes wait admiring the calm blue lake set at the base of the mountains. Our 30 minute canoe ride was breathtaking and serene sprinkled with some comic entertainment from Kahan in our canoe with Reeva. Chinmay and Varun made it in time hiking from the village to Lake Louise and missing a grizzly bear by a few minutes on their trail as we were finishing our ride. We rushed to the Lake View Lounge at the Fairmont for our much awaited lunch which turned out to be just as basic and sub-par as the dinner the night prior. The saving grace was the company and the Lake views. A short shuttle ride brought us to the other -worldly Moraine Lake where we would spend the better part of the afternoon climbing the rock pile for postcard perfect panoramic views from the top and walking along the trails around the lake never being able to take our eyes off of the bright blue-green still waters. It almost looked too good to be true, as if a large ink pot had spilled into the lake giving it this striking bright color. In reality it is the rock flour that settles at the base of the lake that imparts it the color when light refracts from it. It came as no surprise that Moraine Lake is considered one of the most beautiful lakes in the world. We spent the evening relaxing at the Lake Louise Inn. My solo biking 🚴‍♀️ well-laid out intentions turned out awash as I couldn’t figure out the bike trails along the river. With gluten-free penne pasta (accidentally bought those!) and four cheese marinara sauce kids’ dinner was sorted at home. The weird tasting pasta was made up by the ice cream cones dessert thankfully! With limited dining options around, we almost went through with our idea of driving 39 minutes each way to Banff for dinner at the Masala restaurant but decided to stay put. Kahan was right about the pizza πŸ•from the Lake Louise Inn restaurant being so-so. The kitchen was super busy, the 30+ minutes wait for the take-away food had made us hungry enough to devour a few slices of the extra cheesy pizza in our Al-fresco dining picnic table on the Lake Louise Inn grounds.
