Banff to Lake Louise
Banff to Lake Louise
A 5K morning run in any new town is one of the most rewarding experiences on multiple levels as it was in Banff. Anu, I and Varun got to enjoy the town in the early more quite hours on the run and enjoy the lovely nature blending sculpture lines Bow River trail. Chinmay enjoyed the same run a little later.
The kids enjoyed their last breakfast in the hotel and we grabbed some oat meal and roasted breakfast bowls from the Good Earth Coffee place before heading out.
We had time to visit the Cave and Basin National historic site where we learnt valuable lessons about nature conservation and how Canada has implemented plans to preserve these unspoiled natural wonders and the species including the snails 🐌 over the years. The highlight of this place for the kids was playing the giant Snakes and Snail game. Seeing Parishi immersed in it just as much as the other 3 made my heart full. After all, these trips are a blessing in disguise to bring out the kid in her and allow time for the cousins to bond.
Another scenic 45 minute drive brought us to Lake Louise Inn where we were able to checkin and get the nicely upgraded cozy 2 bedroom condo unit where we were looking forward to staying together for the 2 nights while in Lake Louise.
We were welcomed by rain which thankfully subsided by the time we wrapped up our veggie burger 🍔 and falafel 🥙 lunch at Bill Peyto’s cafe across the street. We walked over to the bike rental shop in the Village as our hotel bikes were out and rode for about an hour on the Bow trail along the Bow river with many stops in-between leaving me to desire for more!
The visitor center had given us information about the highly unlikely parking situation at Moraine Lake so we decided to drive for half an hour to Yoho National park and enjoyed a stroll by the Emerald lake. The kids wanted to go back to the hotel and have dinner there and the four of us decided to check out Moraine lake.
It turns out that the parking was full and so we were directed to the exit. We decided to have dinner at the Fairmont Chateau lake Louise. Their Alpine Social restaurant had really good cocktails but below average cafeteria level food. Think packaged gauc with generic tortilla chips kinda mid! It was a fun outing nonetheless with great dinner table conversations amongst the four of us before we headed back to the kids who were under Parishi’s expert supervision at the Lake Louise Inn.
